My Safta (grandma) was born in Jerusalem in 1939, and has lived in Israel her whole life. This project is for a piece in Leviathan Jewish Journal which seeks to tell the story of her life, and her experiences living through the entirety of the history of the modern state of Israel.

My Safta, who has been given the nickname Ahuva since she was a little girl, which directly translates to "beloved" has an Iraqi and Egyptian background, but was born in Jerusalem. She moved to the Tel Aviv area when she was a around 10, and has lived there ever since. My Safta raised my mother and her four siblings on her own in the middle of a war torn country. This piece is very personal to me, and I hope many of you will take the opportunity to submit questions to such an amazing woman who has lived so much life.

Questions do not have to be relevant to history or politics. They can be serious or playful, about food or family, about what she remembers from childhood or what she thinks about today. What are you curious about of a common person who has lived her whole life in a place you hear so much about on the news? Bonus points if you ask her about backgammon.
